Product Description
Latvia is issuing a series of special 2 Euro coins highlighting its four provinces. The first was issued in 2016 (Vidzeme). In 2017 this was followed by Letgallen and Kurzeme and in 2018 this series will conclude with the province of Zemgalen. This special silver-plated 2 Euro coin has the theme Kurzeme. Kurzeme in Dutch is Koerland and in English is Courland. Courland is the westernmost province of Latvia with the major port cities of Ventspils and Liepaja. Courland has a rich history and has a particularly German history. The coat of arms of Kurzeme is shown on the coin. On this crest is a lion walking to the right. Above the coat of arms is the country name Latvija (Latvia) and under the coat of arms the province name Kurzeme (Courland). On the right side of the coin the year 2017 is shown. The edge lettering of the coin is DIEVS * SVETI * LATVIJU (God Bless Latvia). The coin is heavily silver-plated and is packaged in a plastic coin capsule.
