Malta BU 2018 Valletta

Valletta, the capital of Malta, together with Leeuwarden in The Netherlands, is the 2018 cultural capital of Europe. To celebrate this special event, Malta is issuing a series of three BU sets spread over three years. In the year 2016 the first set was issued with the theme Valletta 450 Years. In the 2017 set a retrospect was made about the fact that Malta was still an English colony until about 50 years ago. The theme of the 2018 set is Valletta Cultural Capital of Europe 2018. Europe has two cultural capitals each year. In 2018 they are Valletta and Leeuwarden in The Netherlands! Pictured on the front of the set is the new parliament building of Malta. On the reverse of the set some typical balconies in a street of Valletta are depicted. Inside the set is an aerial shot of the old centre of Valletta with its streets in a square pattern, in accordance with a chessboard. The complete series of Euro coins from Malta 2018 is mounted in the set. The coins are minted in France which is indicated by the letter æFÆ shown in the lower star of the coins. The circulation of this special BU set from Malta 2018 is only 2,000 copies.
