The Battle of Waterloo took place on 18 June 1815. In the year 2015 it was 200 years ago that this battle took place and that is why this special coin was issued. The Battle of Waterloo is known as the most famous battle in modern history. It was the final defeat of Napoleon. The French army fought against an alliance of armies from Prussia, Hanover, England and the Netherlands. On the face of the coin is a æSteekÆ ( hat). This hat is the characteristic headgear that the later King William II wore during the Battle of Waterloo. Furthermore, the text "Waterloo", the value of 10 Euro and the year 1815 are also shown. On the reverse side of the coin the head of King Willem Alexander is depicted. The text "Willem Alexander Koning der Nederlanden" and the year 2015 are also shown. This modern golden €10 closes the series of Waterloo coins that are currently available. The execution is the same as the other Waterloo coins, but the alloy is of course very different û Gold!
