Product Description

In the year 2018 it will be 100 years since the "Rijks Landbouw Hooge School" (National University of Agriculture) in Wageningen was founded. In its class this university is leading in the world after 100 years. More than 12,000 students from about 100 countries study there and the school employs 5,500 people! To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the University of Wageningen, a special 5 Euro coin was issued on 2 November 2018. On the face and reverse of the coin a sunflower is cryptically displayed, some imagination is needed to see this. Everyone knows that a Sunflower turns to face the sun during the day and in the night turns back to the East. On the face of the coin the sunflower is depicted in fields and meadows, as it were. Furthermore, a small seedling is shown at the bottom of the coin. To the right is the Erlenmeyer, the symbol of science. On the left side of the coin, are two intersecting circles. In the upper circle is the value indication of 5 euros and in the bottom circle is the logo of the University of Wageningen. Around the upper part of the coin is the English text æWageningen University & ResearchÆ and at the bottom is the text æ100 yearsÆ along with the years 1918 and 2018. On the reverse of the coin is a representation of a Sunflower central to which is the silhouetted face of King Willem Alexander looking to the right. Around this sunflower is the Dutch text æWillem-Alexander Koning Der NederlandenÆ. The quality of this coin is BU. BU is the abbreviation for Brilliant Uncirculated. The coin is minted in a little higher quality than UNC. The coin is mounted in a numbered coincard. This coincard is dark green in colour and the edition of this coincard is only 12,500 copies.
