Product Description

Operation Market Garden (September 1944) was an Allied attack that took place close to the end of the Second World War. It was an air raid in which many paratroopers were dropped to recapture strategic bridges. However, they could not get hold of the crucial bridge at Arnhem during this offensive. Market Garden can be deduced as a Market (airborne operation) Garden (Ground Offensive). The air offensive consisted of air forces from Great Britain, America, Poland and other allied forces. The ground forces consisted of British, American, Polish and other allied troops who travelled through Belgium and The Netherlands en route to the Rhine bridges. Everything revolved around speed and strategy, and with this operation the Netherlands was partly liberated. Because the Germans were preparing an offensive from the Ardennes, the North and West of the Netherlands could not be liberated immediately, causing many people to die during the 'hunger winter' that followed. Nevertheless, Market Garden can be seen as a crucial link in the liberation of the Netherlands. On the face of the coin part of a parachute is represented on the left. On the right-hand side the bridge at Arnhem (the Jack Frost bridge) is depicted. In the centre of the coin is the value indication together with the operation name 'Market Garden'. On the reverse of the coin is an image of King Willem Alexander without a beard. Encircling this image is the text 'WILLEM-ALEXANDER KONING DER NEDERLAND'. The year 2019 is also displayed along with the mint master's sign - de Servaasbrug (the Servaas Bridge). This coin, as described above, is in the quality UNC and is packed in a printed coin holder.
