Portugal 2 Euro 2021 President of the EU

Portugal has issued a 2 Euro coin in 2021 with the theme 'President of the EU'. Portugal has been a member of the European Union since 1986 and introduced the Euro as legal tender in 2002. Portugal will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from 1st January, 2021 to 1st July, 2021. It is the second time that Portugal will hold the Presidency of this Council, the last time was from 1st July, 2007 to 31st December, 2007. For Portugal, this is such a special event that they have issued a commemorative 2 Euro coin. Several rays are depicted on the face of this coin which symbolize the mission of the Portuguese Presidency in the EU to all those who disperse it in the Eurozone. Furthermore, the text 'PRESIDENCIA DO CONSELHO DA UNIAO EUROPEIA' (President of the EU) is shown together with the country name, Portugal, and the year of issue, 2021. The coin is packaged in a printed coin holder.
