Product Description
The Gothic architectural style is the name for the architectural style from the late Middle Ages, from around 1125 to 1500 AD. The most striking part of this architectural style is the pointed arches that were used at doorways and in windows. This architectural style was also widely used in the churches and monasteries that were built during these times. Building churches and monasteries was slow, elaborating these immense buildings in detail took centuries! In 1386, King Dom Joao ordered the construction of the Batalha Monastery. The construction of this Dominican monastery took no less than 180 years. The face of this coin features a typical Gothic pointed arch above which is the country name, Portugal, together with the year of issue, 2020. The word 'GOTICO' (Gothic) and the value indication of 5 Euro are also shown. The same Gothic pointed arch is depicted on the reverse of the coin. Furthermore, the 12 stars of Europe and the coat of arms of Portugal are pictured. The coin is packaged in a printed coin holder.
