2023 San Marino 2 Euro coin 'Luca Signorelli'. San Marino has issued a special 2 Euro coin with the theme of Luca Signorelli who was an Italian Renaissance painter who made extensive use of the foreshortening technique in his works. Here, a body part or object that points to the painter is greatly shortened. In the beginning he mainly worked in the style of Pinturicchio, but his later works show clear influences from Botticelli and Lippo Lippi. He often painted chiaroscuro, in which the light-dark contrasts are depicted much more strongly. This in combination with the foreshortening technique made him a unique painter at the time. It is 500 years ago that Luca Signorelli died (in 1523), which is why San Marino has decided to issue this special 2 Euro coin. On the face of the coin an angel, a detail from the painting Il Paradiso, is depicted. This painting can be found in the cathedral of Orvieto. Furthermore, his name, Signorelli, is displayed along with the country name of San Marino. The coin is presented in a beautiful package and has an edition of only 56,000 copies!
