Product Description

Maximilian Hell was not only a priest of the Kingdom of Hungary but also a Hungarian astronomer who was born in Selmecbanya on 15th May, 1720. Maximilian Hell became director of the Vienna Observatory in 1756, publishing many works. In 1769 he left for Norway with his assistant to observe Venus. He spent no less than 9 months in Norway and his publication took a long time. A century after his death he was acquitted for seemingly falsifying his findings. To commemorate the fact that Maximilian Hell was born 300 years ago it was decided to issue a 10 Euro coin. On the obverse of the coin is a portrait of Maximilian Hell with his name, in an arc, on the left. His years of birth and death are shown between his name and portrait. On the reverse of the coin Maximilian Hell is depicted looking through a telescope at Venus. The country name 'SLOVENSKO' (Slovakia) and the year of issue, 2020, are shown at the top of the coin. The value indication of 10 Euro is shown in the centre of the coin. The coin is packed in a printed coin holder.
