Slovakia BU 2019 "Beech forests of the Carpathians"

Slovakia has exactly 20 areas, monuments and objects that have the UNESCO status. The prehistoric 'Beech Forests of the Carpathians' are a beautiful piece of nature where time seems to have literally stood still. These forests present a piece of unspoilt nature that humans have not yet had any influence on. With unique flora and fauna this area qualifies as one of the jewels of Europe, many plant and animal species occur exclusively in this area. It is therefore completely understandable that this formidable nature reserve was awarded UNESCO status in 2007. Slovakia publishes a BU coin set each year that is dedicated to UNESCO. In 2019 Slovakia decided to make the prehistoric beech forests of the Carpathians as the theme of this very scarce BU set. The BU set shows the splendour of the prehistoric beech forests of the Carpathian Mountains. Various highly endangered plants and animal species that occur in the forests are depicted on the packaging of the set. Only 2,000 copies of this BU set have been produced.
