Product Description
Belgium has issued its second 2 Euro coin of 2020, this 2 Euro coin has the theme 'Jan van Eyck'. Jan van Eyck (1390 - 1441) was a painter known throughout Europe and seen as the inventor of oil painting. He was known for his naturalistic painting style, which is based on visible reality. With his refined oil painting technique he was able to produce paintings of a calibre that was almost unprecedented at the time. Jan van Eyck was a proud painter and knew he had exceptional qualities. His most famous works are 'The Man in the Red Turban' (presumably his self-portrait) and the 'Adoration of the Mystic Lamb'. He produced the latter work together with his brother, Hubert van Eyck. On the face of the coin a detail of his self-portrait (The Man in the Red Turban) is depicted. His name J. van Eyck appears at the top of the coin, with his signature at the left centre of the coin. At the bottom of the coin a painter's palette with two brushes is shown. The year of issue 2020 is shown on the right. This 2 Euro coin Jan van Eyck is packaged in a printed coin holder.
