Italy 2 Euro 2022 'Falcone and Borsellino'. Italy has issued a 2 Euro coin with the theme of 'Giovanni Falcone' and 'Paolo Borsellino'. Falcone and Borsellino were anti-mafia judges responsible for the maxi-trials against the mafia in the 1980's. Falcone and Borsellino convicted nearly 400 mafia members but this cost them dearly. On 23rd May, 1992 Falcone was killed when his car ran over a giant bomb on a newly constructed highway. Borsellino was murdered two months later, on 19th July, 1992 when a car exploded next to him. This happened in front of his mother's house in Palermo. To commemorate the murder of Falcone and Borsellino 30 years ago, Italy has decided to issue a special 2 Euro coin. On the face of the coin are images of Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. The years 1992 and 2022 are also displayed. This coin is packed in a printed coin holder.
