Product Description
Malta 2 Euro 2023 'Nicholas Copernicus'. Nicholas Copernicus was an astronomer and mathematician who placed the sun at the centre of the universe, instead of the Earth. He did this using a heliocentric model. Nicholas Copernicus was born in the Hanseatic city of Thorn, which was under Polish authority. He spoke no fewer than seven languages, including Latin, Greek, Italian, Polish and German. He was born 550 years ago, in the year 1473, which is why the Maltese Bank has decided to issue this special 2 Euro coin. The obverse of the coin depicts Nicholas Copernicus in front of his heliocentric model, in which the sun is positioned centrally in the universe. Furthermore, his name NICOLAUS COPERNICUS (Nicolaas Copernicus), the year of issue, 2023, and the country name, Malta, are shown along with the years 1473-1543. This coin is packed in a printed coin holder.
