Jaap Eden (19th October 1873 - 2nd February 1925) was a Dutch skater and cyclist. Jaap Eden is the only Dutch athlete ever to become the world champion in two different sports. As a skater he won his first World Title in 1893. Less than a year later, in 1984, he became World Champion in the 10 kilometres. In 1895 he became World Cycling Sprint Champion! A Dutch sports hero whose glory is still known today. Due to his exceptional performance it has been decided to issue a 5 and 10 Euro coin in his honour. On the face of the coin Jaap Eden is portrayed skating the long distances with his hands behind his back. The tracks of the skates are beautifully shown on the coin. His name 'Jaap Eden' is displayed across the centre while the value indication is shown at the top of the coin. In the centre of the reverse of the coin is an image of King Willem-Alexander. In an arc around the coin is the text 'Willem-Alexander Koning Der Nederland' (Willem-Alexander King of the Netherlands). The year of issue, 2019, is shown a t the right centre of the coin. This coin is presented in a luxury package that not only describes the coin, but also how the coin was created. The edition of this luxury silver version is only 4,500 copies.
